Pima canyon is a great hiking area that is easily accessible and located on the North West side of Tucson.
You can hike all the way to the top of the canyon and have breathtaking views of Oro Valley, Mt Lemmon and Tucson.
There is an historic dam near the top.
The canyon has a lot of wildlife to view including birds, tarantulas, here is one I saw, javalenas, lizards, deer, mt. lions, and more.
The trail is easy to follow and there is a nice river throughout out the canyon.
The trail head has lots of parking and picnic areas.
This hike makes a great first hike while in Tucson.
The hike begins at an elevation of about 2,900 Feet and if you climb tot he top it is 7,255 feet which is a gain of 4355 feet.
If you remain on the lower half it is easy climbing for all but the farther in you go the steeper and more challenging it gets, especially the last couple hundred feet which gets you on top of the saddle where you can view Mt Lemon and Oro Valley.
